Namibia is such a vast and diverse country. I would definitely call it one of the most unexpected countries as well. You might think you’re entering nothing but a huge desert but you will be pleasantly surprised to find it is so much more than that. They have wildlife, coastline, forestry, history and a ton of culture. Don’t judge this book by its cover, or maybe do as the cover is absolutely breath-taking. Here are three experiences that will definitely stick with you after your Namibian trip.
- Having a sundowner on the rim Fish River Canyon.
The Fish River Canyon is the largest canyon in the whole of Africa. It is large spectacular gorge with a river flowing through the river. The hiking trail is amazing but it is widely known that nothing beats watching the African sun set. Make it even better by adding a drink in your hand and a spectacular view. The main view point has shade and chairs and tables.
- Walk “the Maze” at the Giant Playground
This is really a surreal and truly unique landscape. It literally looks like a playground where giants had stacked rocks on top of each other. You can walk there. Keep in mind it is quite a walk and easy to lose your way as the landscape looks more or less the same everywhere.
- Visit the Himba village
As I said, culture is a huge thing in Namibia. Traditions are passed down through generations and never forgotten or altered. The Himba tribe are famous for the red Ochre the woman apply to their skin. It is very interesting to see that these people still live as their ancestors had and they are completely content and happy with the little natural resources they have.
Do not hesitate to really get to know this cou8try because once you start exploring you will find there is very little that can be called ordinary about this amazing country.
