Spring in South Africa

Spring has arrived in Africa. Most people are eager to shake off the winter blues and we know just the place to do it! The best places to be in South Africa in spring is the Northern and Western Cape and here’s why.

Northern Cape

The Namaqua region of the Northern Cape is definitely a sight to see. Each spring this beautiful region of South Africa spoils us with displays of the most spectacular colours your eyes have seen. Breath-taking scents fill the air and the end of winter is celebrated. The Namaqua National Park is 22 kilometres outside of Kamieskroon.

Not only are there colourful flowers to be seen but also colourful birds. Kamfers Dam, close to Kimberly, is home to the Lesser Flamingo. This dam is the only breeding area for this flamingo in the entire South Africa.

The Vaalharts Valley (only an hour’s drive north of Kimberley) will assure you that spring is in the air. You can explore this beautiful region by quad bike or 4×4 or even go by microlight. There is horse-riding as well in this region. You can even have a swim in one of the canals. Learn about all the agricultural farms, the complicated irrigation system and the fact that this system is supplied by two mighty rivers, the Vaal and the Harts. Hartwater and Jan Kempdorp are the two main centres.

Western Cape

The West Coast is known for irrupting into sudden bloom as spring hits. All over the sand and rock splashes of colour appear to let us know that spring has arrived. The West Coast National Park is but and hours’ drive from Cape Town. Apart from experiencing the beautiful flowers and magnificent view, this park also offers a range of activities. From water sports to whale watching. Cycling to star-gazing. Here you will find something for everyone.

Come escape the rush of city life in the wide open spaces of the Takwa Karoo National Park. Ceres is the last town before you enter the park so here you should stock up on essential. Not only does the park turn into a colourful paradise in spring, the birds also come in dozens to experience the flower frenzy. With awesome 4×4 trails and spectacular scenery’s this is not one to miss.

The magic only last for a certain amount of time so be sure to get your dates booked.
