Outdoor Marathons to look forward to in 2018

For those of you runners fuelled by nature, those who wake up before the sun to watch it rise, those who suffer through blisters to be able to reach the end or maybe even just a sip of water, those who know a view can help you get your breath better than anything else, this one is for the outdoor runners. Young or old, amateur or advanced, there is a race out there for you.

The Big Five Marathon

The race takes place in the private Entabeni Safari Conservancy in the Limpopo province between Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park. Combine safari with sweat. Make your way calmly among the savannahs witnessing Africa`s best. The Big Five Marathon starts and finishes at Lakeside Lodge on the upper escarpment. Runners staying at the other lodges will be transferred to Lakeside in jeeps. The route is quite challenging with the yellowwood valley sporting an extremely steep slope. It`s a 42 km run so it is for the more advanced runner but definitely one to work up to.

Table Mountain Challenge 2018

What a race! This one ranges from intermediate to difficult and distances from 21 – 42 but the awesome thing about it is you can pair up and go in teams. Obviously no need to explain where it is (just the most beautiful city in the world). Mountain and ocean what is more breath-taking than that?

Knysna Forest Marathon

Every year during the Knysna Oyster run (great pre-run protein btw) a race is held through the beautiful enchanting Knysna forest. What is more mystical that breathing in the freshest of fresh air running past streams and being able to splash pure ice cold forest water on your face? Participants can take place in either the 42.2km full marathon or the 21.1km half-marathon. Book early. This one is very popular.
