Durban is a true mash up of colour and culture. On top of all these different vibes and tribes around Durban, the city also collides with the ocean which makes it a super busy city by the sea.
My top favourite place to visit in Durban is without a doubt Ushaka Marine World. It comprises 5 sections: uShaka Sea World, uShaka Wet ‘n Wild, uShaka Beach, uShaka Village Walk and, uShaka Kids World. My favourite part is the Aquarium (Sea World) which is set in an old sunken ship. The interior itself is breath-taking with vintage bathroom and equipment it really creates an ominous ambiance.
Durban Botanic Gardens is a must see when in the city of Durban. It is Africa’s very oldest botanical garden! The gardens cover an area of 15 hectares in a subtropical climate. Orchids, palms, monkeys, ducks, fish, birds & reptiles can be found in these beautiful gardens. It is also a prime spot for either a romantic or family picnic.
The Umgeni River Bird Park is a bird zoo located in Durban. If you haven’t yet been to the Umgeni River Bird Park it is well worth making a trip there! Something for everyone; be it sitting in one of the enclosures and watching the magnificent and brightly coloured bird life filling the trees around you or even sitting on your shoulder; or walking through and admiring the wide variety of local and international species; spending some time in the nursery with the new arrivals; or sitting having an amazing cappuccino or beverage while the kids play on the swings, jungle gym or jumping castle. The entire family can enjoy this outing.
It is very important also to not miss out on the famous Durban Curry. It is sold all around Durban but beware, this can become a rather spicy story.
