Karibib – Namibia

Namibia is a stunningly unique country to visit. This beautiful African gem will definitely blow your mind and pleasantly surprise you at the same time. It has an astonishingly strong European influence. Today I want to focus on the small, often looked over, special little town of Karibib.

The unique little town can be found mid-distance between Windhoek and Swakopmund. One of the most beautiful things about this town is all of the marble. The architechture is Eropean style with Namibian materials. The view from the town is dominated by the Erongo Mountains. This Mountain is actually a Volcanic Mountain Range and it is beautiful and very photogenic.

A must visit is the Henckert Curio Shop. Wherever you travel it is good to invest in the locals. Especially in a small town like Karibib where a lot less travellers come by than in the big cities. Here they sell locally woven and crafted beautiful curios.

Erongo Wilderness Lodge is definitely the place to stay when travelling here. It is complete circled by the Erongo Mountains which make this a literal hidden gem as the mountains cover it up so well. As it is such a safe haven it is an absolute paradise for birders. Species such as Hartlaub’s Francolin, Redbilled Francolin, Ruppell’s Parrot, Rosyfaced Lovebird, Monteiro’s Hornbill, Carp’s Black Tit, Damara Rockrunner, Pririt Batis, Whitetailed Shrike, Violet-earedWaxbill, and the Redheaded Finch can be seen frequently. Hikers will also find this to be the perfect place to spend the holiday.

You can choose to do either a guided or a self-guided tour through the amazing wilderness surrounding the camp. Of course you can also go on a game drive on the 200 000 hectare Erongo Mountain Nature Conservancy.

Visit Karibib for the Namibian experience of a lifetime.
