Hoedspruit Part 2- Things to do

As we all know the safari scene is top notch in Hoedspruit. You can get a number of excellent safaris around town. I want to focus a bit more away from the safari.

The Picnic Spot

This is a lovely spot nestled in the Drakensburg Mountains. It is a favourite swimming spot amongst the locals and is just as fun as it is beautiful. The cool mountain water provides excellent relief to the hot African sun. I would strongly recommend taking a floaty with as there is nothing more fun than slowly drifting along the river enjoying the incredible Mountain View. Take the whole family along.

The Waterfall – Swadini Forever Resort

If you drive to Swadini Forever Resort, and you pass the entrance, you will find your way to a stunning path in the jungle. Surrounded by overgrown bush and walking alongside a little stream for about 2km, the path will lead you to a stunning water hole. Cool off in the freezing river water after the exhausting walk and definitely pack a picnic basket. This place feels like a fairy-tale paradise and the whole family will love it.

Mariepskop View

Mariepskop View is one of the best kept secrets amongst locals. This is past the Picnic Spot higher up in the mountain (4×4 required). From here you can see the entire Hoedspruit and beyond. It is truly breath taking. If you are lucky and your timing is right (around August) you might even spot the South African national flower, The Protea.

Farmers Market – Safari Juction

On the first Sunday of each Month a little centre just outside of town plays host to the local farmers market. This is always loads of fun. The locals of the farming community get really creative with food, jams and even infused gins. This is not one to miss.
