Umlani is located in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, which shares an unfenced border with the Kruger National Park. This is true Big Five territory and guests have an opportunity to see lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino on safe, expertly guided game drives and bush walks. The area is also home to more than 40 mammal species and 350 bird species.
Sleeping only 16 people, accommodation is in reed and thatch huts built in the local Shangaan style – with some essential modifications like en suite bathrooms, flushing toilets and hot running water. The lodge has five double huts and two family huts.
The public area is dedicated to relaxation with the bar opening onto a deck which overlooks the riverbed and a waterhole. Hammocks hang between the trees around the pool so you can take in the bush with a Gin & Tonic in hand while elephants drink from the waterhole or even from the pool. Dinner is served in the beautifully decorated dining area or in the boma under the African stars. There is no electricity here – so you will be surrounded by lanterns and torches in the riverbed.
